Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 1 October 2026

1. The agreement

These Terms, Conditions and Privacy Policy (the "Terms") govern your use of Papertab, a bill-splitting tool provided by Xiangyu Shi ("we", "us"). By signing in, accepting an invitation, or continuing to use Papertab after a change to these Terms, you agree to them. The Privacy Policy, linked from the sign-in gate and from the home page, forms part of these Terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Papertab. By using the service you confirm you meet this requirement. The service is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

3. Your account

Papertab signs you in through Google or Discord; we do not issue passwords. You are responsible for the security of the account you sign in with, for everything done through it, and for keeping the information on your account accurate. You may delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes the data you own.

4. Using the service

What you can do

You may use Papertab to create projects, split receipts, invite people by email, connect with contacts and export your own data.

What you must not do

  • Access, scrape or interfere with the service in ways that are not normal use, or try to break its security.
  • Upload unlawful, infringing or abusive content, or receipts you have no right to store.
  • Invite people by email without their consent, or use invitations to send spam.
  • Use the service in a way that could damage, disable or overload it.

5. Your content and our rights

You own the projects, receipts, items and other content you create. You grant us the right to store, process and display that content solely to operate the service for you and the people you share it with. The Papertab name, logo and software remain ours, and the service is licensed to you, not sold.

6. Invitations and connections

Inviting someone by email is your decision. You must have the right to contact the recipient. An invitation is accepted by following the emailed link; the recipient's account is then linked as a participant or contact. Linking identifies who a participant is; it does not by itself give them access to your other data.

7. Payments are records, not payments

Papertab records who paid what and who owes whom as a bookkeeping tool. It does not move money, process payments or provide financial advice. The statuses you mark on payments are informational, and you are responsible for settling the debts you record outside the service.

8. Receipt scanning

Receipt scanning is optional. A photo you scan is sent through OpenRouter to an AI model to be read, on this deployment's account; you need no key of your own. Scanning results are best-effort and may be wrong; you are responsible for checking the items and amounts before relying on them. You can always type a receipt in instead.

9. Termination

You can stop using Papertab at any time by deleting your account in Settings. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. On termination, the data you own is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimers

Papertab is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, about the service — including that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that any scanned or calculated figures are accurate.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost profits or data, arising out of your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim (we do not currently charge for Papertab).

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time and will post the revised version here with an updated "Last updated" date. Continuing to use Papertab after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If a change is material, we will make reasonable efforts to bring it to your attention.

14. Contact

Questions about these Terms can be sent to privacy@papertab.xiangyushi.dev, the same address the Privacy Policy gives.
